Overall Role Purpose
The Director Employee Relations MENA will lead and manage Labor Relations, Human Rights and HR Compliance matters across the region, to design Employee Relations strategy, conceptualize and deliver fair, respectful, diverse and high impact solutions to enable Business Managers to deal with Employee Relations issues effectively, increase employee engagement and productivity in line with business needs, HR strategy and industry best practices.
Your Tasks:
General:
- Ensuring that all countries in MENA know and follow the DHL Employee Relations standards
- Proactive contribution to short-term and medium-term Employee Relations strategies in regional context at scale with key internal partners
- Own and coordinate Employee Relations reporting across Labor Relations, Human Rights and HR Compliance topics, ensuring timely and accurate escalation and reporting to regional and global stakeholders.
- Informing and aligning with Global Employee Relations on relevant Employee Relations issues and developments in MENA
- Implementing and driving global and regional Employee Relations projects, targets and strategy
- Advising managers and HR in practices and strategies for managing employee relations, including human rights, topics
- Support in mitigating and solving Employee Relations disputes
- Liaising and collaborating with the DHL Express Compliance function and Global Employee Relations on human rights and compliance topics
- Promote a culture of fairness, respect, inclusion, ethical conduct and compliance throughout the region.
Labor Relations:
- Ensuring early Labor Relations risk notifications to Global Employee Relations and to MENA Management Board
- Observing relevant political and legal Labor Relations developments and trends in the region and potential impact
- Following up on CLA negotiations and keeping EXP ER Calendar for region up to date
- Aligning and giving guidance on local labor Relations issues with/to countries and mitigating Labor Relations Risks
- Working together and managing the relationship with the trade unions in Bahrain
Human Rights:
- Ensuring human rights compliance in MENA, exploring and designing ways to further embed respect for Human Rights within the business, e.g., by including human rights in functional/operational policies and processes.
- Managing Human Rights related complaints, grievances and investigations in alignment with global governance requirements and drive continuous improvements
- Investigating human rights cases which involve senior managers. Train investigators in the region and maintain investigator capability across the region.
- Coordinating and giving ER trainings, e.g. ‘Preventing discrimination and harassment at the workplace”, ‘Building a GreatER DHL’ and the ‘Workplace Investigator Program’
- Developing and driving effective Human Rights awareness campaigns across the region
- Conducting Putting Our People First / Human Rights Reviews in countries to ensure compliance with DHL’s internal and external Employee Relations standards
- Supporting responses to customers, investors and regulatory Human Rights information requests and assessments.
HR Compliance:
- Managing the conflict of interest (CoI) process and awareness activities across MENA, including managing related Compliance cases
- Providing governance and oversight for CoI cases
- Governing applicant and employee screening processes in accordance with DHL standards
- Managing and coordinating the regional HR CRISP audit and designing actions to continuously improve regional CRISP compliance
- Assessing and monitoring closure of TOP3 HR Audit Findings and other ER-related remediation activities.
- Monitoring completion of mandatory HR and compliance-related training across the region
- Supporting compliance with employees and applicant data privacy and data protection requirements
- Driving continuous improvement of HR compliance processes, controls and governance standards.
Your Profile:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the area of Employee Relations / Labor Law
- Master’s degree in law, master’s degree in HR or Sustainability or equivalent
- Certification as social auditor, e.g. SMETA, beneficial
- Profound knowledge of Labor relations and Human Rights
- Experience in handling workplace grievances.
- Excellent communication and advising skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building ability and experience in interacting with senior management
- Ability to effectively solve problems and make decisions
- Cross-cultural competence and problem-solving ability
- Project management expertise
- A global mind-set and a positive, collaborative spirit
- International experience
- Audit skills
- Fluent in English, further language(s) beneficial.
