Head of Legal, Eastern Province, KSA

We need a Head of Legal,

Role Purpose

As the senior legal representative for DHL across the Saudi GCC Cluster, covering Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Yemen, you will lead the legal function and provide strategic legal advice to senior management and all DHL business units. You will ensure that legal risks are identified, assessed and mitigated while supporting business objectives and commercial growth across the cluster.

Working in a matrix organization, you will collaborate with regional and global Legal Services teams, business leaders and external partners to implement legal strategies, establish effective processes and procedures, and protect DHL’s legal and commercial interests across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Legal Leadership: Lead the legal function across the assigned countries and business units, aligning legal strategies with regional and global business objectives and advising senior management on key legal matters and risks.
Legal Risk & Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, monitor legal developments, and develop strategies to identify, assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
Commercial Contracts & Negotiations: Advise on, draft and negotiate commercial contracts with customers, suppliers and other third parties, protecting DHL’s interests while supporting business objectives and commercial opportunities.
Litigation & Dispute Management: Oversee litigation, claims and other legal proceedings, developing appropriate strategies and managing external legal counsel and related costs.
Business Partnering: Work closely with management teams across DHL’s business units, including Supply Chain, eCommerce, Express and Global Forwarding, providing practical legal advice and contributing to strategic decisions and business initiatives.
Team Leadership & Development: Lead and develop a team of legal professionals and support staff, fostering collaboration, sharing legal expertise and ensuring high-quality, consistent legal services across the cluster.
Governance & Cost Management: Establish effective legal processes and procedures, ensure transparency and control of internal and external legal costs, and collaborate with auditors, regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders.
Specialist Legal Matters: Provide leadership or support on matters including competition law, employment and labour relations, real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, compliance investigations, data protection and tax-related disputes, as required.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve legal service delivery, including the effective use of legal technology, knowledge-sharing tools and training initiatives.

Your Profile

University degree in Law and relevant professional legal qualifications.
More than 20 years of legal experience in a commercial law firm or an in-house legal department.
Proven experience leading a legal function and managing legal professionals, ideally in an international and matrix organization.
Strong understanding of business operations and the ability to translate complex legal matters into practical, business-oriented advice.
Experience advising senior management and supporting strategic business decisions across multiple countries or jurisdictions.
Strong analytical, negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Strong budgeting and cost-control capabilities, including the management of external legal counsel.
Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and spoken, is essential.
Familiarity with civil law traditions and the legal environments of the Saudi GCC Cluster is an advantage.
A proactive, solution-oriented approach, with the ability to balance legal risk management with commercial priorities and work effectively across diverse cultural and business environments.

We need an ADVISOR – EMPLOYEE RELATIONS

JOB PURPOSE

To advise on employee relations matters to safeguard the interests of the Group by ensuring it does not commit itself to any unfavorable obligations and complies with the applicable laws, regional and international practice. Furthermore, to participate in investigation committees to ensure well-being of the Company through compliance to applicable laws, Labor laws and Company's rules and regulations and to solve employee matters amicably to maintain positive environment. Moreover, to deal with and ensure employee relations documents, Company's schedule of penalties and procedures are legally acceptable and in accordance with the applicable Laws.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Participate in Committees to carry out investigations and to ensure acting in line with the applicable laws.
Draft investigation committee's formations letters, minutes, opinions, recommendations and reports, warning letters, terminations including appeal, suspensions, etc. (Arabic and English) to ensure that it carried out in accordance with applicable laws and Company's policies and procedures and legally acceptable.
Deal with management to solve matters amicably and to be aware with it to be corrective rather than punitive.
Provide consultations and solutions for employees to resolve conflicts or problems with colleagues amicably.
Assist all Departments and Divisions with disciplinary procedures and disciplinary actions and advise upon any queries from functional Managers on employee and disciplinary matters.
Investigate with staff in case of violation in line with the station's laws and in coordination with Legal Affairs Department, where duty travel might be required.
Render legal advice and opinions to the Company on Board of Review (FORB) and employee relations matters on disciplinary matters and ensure that it's in compliance with Labor law and Company's rules and regulations and don't violate the company's rules and regulations.
Draft correspondences to the Ministry of Labor with regards to employee relations matters.
Review and ensure that the schedule of penalties and procedures are in order with the Company's rules and regulations and does not have conflict with the Labor Law to ensure that they are legally acceptable, favorable to the Company and according to the applicable laws.
Negotiate in favor of the Company with unions and concerned parties.
Prepare files and Employee Relations statistics to keep accurate records of disciplinary actions taken on all levels and update records of all cases and maintain the Employee Relations filing system, with consideration of utmost confidentiality.
Extend require assistance and achieve any task assigned by the direct supervisor related to the field.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in law from internationally recognized university and preferred high degree with specialized knowledge in Bahrain Labor Law and disciplinary procedures.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum 2 years of experience in legal practice, Labor Law, Labor Disputes, policies, disciplinary procedures, and regulations.
Experience conducting investigations, disciplinary proceedings, grievance handling, and employee conflict resolution.
Experience interpreting and applying labour laws, company policies, and disciplinary procedures.

We need a Legal Team Assistant

Provides diverse administrative and organizational support to direct and in-direct assigned lawyers and team. The individual will prepare documents and correspondence. Additional responsibilities include external client contact and direct or indirect responsibility for preparation of monthly billing and a wide variety of other routine administrative tasks for the principal(s).

The Legal Team Assistant will work closely with the Office Coordinator to complete tasks for the team.

Essential job functions

Answer phones, transfer calls, take messages, establish conference calls and use voice mail.
Handle written and electronic correspondence, including editing, adjusting language or terminology and correcting grammar where appropriate to improve work product.
Investigate and respond to client requests, including organising and sending materials to clients.
Prepare client bills and associated cover letters.
Prepare new matter reports and update list of client/matter codes.
Maintain and process client billing for lawyers, directly or indirectly.
Liaise with clients, investigating and responding to requests where appropriate.
Manage lawyers’ Outlook calendars.
Maintain lawyers’ time entries in iTimekeep.
Monitor professional development requirements for lawyers.
Create and update comprehensive contact information using Dechert CRM best practices.
Make travel arrangements and complete travel and expense reports in Concur.
Manage workflow and coordinate projects with office services.
Schedule meetings, reserve rooms, coordinate video or audio equipment, and order food.
Use MS Office in preparation of documents, spreadsheets and presentations.
Utilise iManage document management system for all documents.
Review and process administrative and personal charges via BillBack.
Perform all other duties as necessary and as assigned by your allocated lawyers, Office Coordinator or line manager for efficient functioning of the Department, Office and Firm.

Interactions

The Legal Team Assistant will interact regularly with Firm Lawyers, paralegals and staff in facilitating the flow of all administrative work. The Legal Team Assistant will also interact, from time to time, with clients, counsel and court personnel. The Legal Team Assistant will work regularly with other Dechert departments such as Administration, Finance, Hospitality, Reception, Dechert 24/7, Facilities and Office Services, as well as members of all Dechert regional offices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Secondary level education required; university studies preferred.
Previous legal secretarial experience in a law firm.
English fluency at native or bilingual level.
Typing 65wpm and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
High attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
Ability to prioritise and coordinate work.
Ability to maintain confidential information.
Ability to complete assignments within agreed deadlines by prioritising workload.
Ability and willingness to learn new skills as they become necessary.
Demonstrate confidence in approach, including proactively completing tasks that may be outside general scope of duties.
Demonstrate initiative and strong client focus, taking responsibility for tasks and issues, proactively taking ownership to ensure successful conclusion
Team player, able to work well with others to achieve departmental or task specific goals.
Practice and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Legal Counsel/ Director will be the main point of contact for the legal matters in relation to Alstom projects in Saudi Arabia and to all Alstom legal entities located in Saudi Arabia.
You will be the main point of contact and will represent Alstom vis-à-vis external stakeholders (such as government entities, administrative institutions, external law firms, partners and subcontractors)
You will proactively support in the day to day the business and other support functions, in particular:
- You will be supporting the Business Development Teams in the drafting, review and negotiation of preliminary documentations such as MoU, NDA…
- You will be supporting the Bid team in the review of the tender documents and the drafting of the related documents (commercial offers, clarifications request, review of the project agreement, consortium agreements..).
- You will be proactively participate to the definition of the Claim management and dispute/settlement resolution strategy and their implementation with the support of other functions.
- You will support the Sourcing Teams in the drafting, review and negotiation of subcontract agreements.
You will ensure that the interests of the Company are well protected and secured and that any and all agreements are signed with an acceptable level of risks
You will handle corporate matters
You will provide legal & contractual trainings to the commercial and business development teams

Requirements:

Minimum 6 years of experience in an international business environment and/or law firms
Proven experience as Legal Counsel in construction or industrial environment
Fully versed in sharia’s, Islamic law
Familiar with public tenders and procurement law
Fluent in English and Arabic language
FIDIC knowledge would be a plus.
Excellent Leader who is able to interact with variety of stakeholders
Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
Demonstrated ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies
High degree of professional ethics and integrity
Sound judgement and ability to analyze situations and information
Outstanding communication skills
Law degree in Business,(desirable LLM/LLB)
